Clarification of APRN Recognition Expiration Dates from SBON
Posted about 6 years ago by JoAnn Franklin
Hi All,
I am hoping you can help share information your APRN members.
As you know, RN licenses expire April 30, 2019. RNs started renewing February 1.
For APRNs, their APRN recognition is contingent on having a current RN license or current multistate license from another nurse licensure compact state.
We have logic built in our system to make the APRN recognition expiration date the earliest of either the RN license expiration or APRN national certification.
When the RN renews to April 30, 2021, then the APRN recognition will change to reflect the earliest of the two days.
Here are some scenarios.
Scenario 1
RN license expires April 30, 2019.
RN has a FNP certification that expires May 25, 2020.
On Nursys, the FNP recognition is going to show a forced expiration date of April 30, 2019 because the FNP recognition expires if the RN does not renew the RN license.
RN then renews and the RN license now expires April 30, 2021.
The FNP recognition will then show an expiration of May 25, 2020 (earliest of the two expiration dates).
Scenario 2
RN license expires April 30, 2019
RN has a CRNA certification that expires July 31, 2021.
On Nursys, the CRNA recognition is going to show a forced expiration date of April 30, 2019 because the CRNA recognition expires if the RN does not renew the RN license.
RN then renews the RN license now expires April 30, 2021.
The CRNA recognition will then show an expiration date of April 30, 2021 (earliest of the two expiration dates: 04/30/2021 and 07/31/2021).
Scenario 3
RN license expires April 30, 2019
RN has a PNP recognition that expires February 28, 2021.
On Nursys, the PNP recognition is going to show a forced expiration date of April 30, 2019 because the PNP recognition expires if the RN does not renew the RN license.
RN then renews the RN license now expires April 30, 2021.
The PNP recognition will then show an expiration date of February 28, 2021 (earliest of the two expiration dates: 02/28/2021 and 4/30/2021).
We are getting calls from APRNs about renewing. As a reminder, to renew, the APRN just needs to send us a new certification card (when received). We do send a courtesy reminder letter about 90 days prior to expiration. The best way for a nurse to keep up to date is to have a Nursys e-Notify “as a nurse” account. When the nurse renews the RN license, they should wait about 4 days for the expiration dates to be updated in Nursys.
