ACTION NEEDED - Submit YOUR Covid 19 Rule Suspension Stories
Posted about 4 years ago by Derek Leffert
As most of you know, AMNP and our partner associations worked diligently to suspend restrictive rules at the onset of the COVID 19 pandemic. Working with Governor Parson, we were able to secure the suspension of geographic proximity, chart reviews, one-month collaboration period, and other helpful initiatives. In addition to the initial suspensions, we have remained actively engaged in all subsequent extensions. As you know better than many others, the pandemic is not over.
As of now, the rule suspensions that have been in place since March of 2020 are set to expire on August 31st. We believe that a continued suspension is necessary, especially given the surges seen as a result of the delta variant in many communities across Missouri. Allowing the suspensions to expire could exacerbate the spikes and place an unnecessary burden on health care providers and patients. As such, we believe a further extension is warranted and we need YOUR help.
To help us continue to advocate for you, we need to hear from you how these suspensions have helped you as a provider, and more importantly, your patients. We would like to take the stories that we gather to Gov. Parson and demonstrate to him how impactful these suspensions have been and how catastrophic it would be to allow them to expire. Please consider taking a few minutes of your time to email us a quick story (or stories) about how this has affected your practice and how the expiration will affect you.
You can email your perspective on the suspensions to us at nursepractitioners@missourinp.org
Thank you in advance for taking time to help out. We are grateful to you for all that you continue to do for your patients and communities.

Suspension of these rules has allowed KC Hospice and Palliative Care to continue running to serve our patients. The one-month collaboration suspension allowed our agency to replace NP staff members quickly. It also allowed us to add more PRN staff to meet medical staff challenges. Because many of us were working remotely, the geographic proximity suspension helped immensely.
Our medical directors were quite busy leading our agency through the pandemic with the ever-changing CDC and health department regulations; suspension of the chart reviews freed up time for them to pursue these challenges.
Our organization is now expert at meeting via Zoom/Google Meets. I personally feel that these rules are antiquated and should remain suspended indefinitely. The entire medical community can collaborate via telehealth--using both audio and visual collaboration--at a moment's notice. Let's suspend these rules permanently. We have demonstrated throughout Covid that these rules do not add to patient safety.
