TAKE ACTION NOW TO HELP REMOVE THE UNNECESSARY APRN MILEAGE RULE
Posted over 3 years ago by Derek Leffert
Take Action Now to get the APRN mileage rule removed!
We have been working hard behind the scenes since the Governor unexpectedly removed the COVID State of Emergency which ended the waivers on the APRN Barriers to Practice. One change that can make an immediate difference is the permanent removal of the mileage barrier. The Board of Healing Arts has the ability to do this NOW without needing intervention from the Governor or the Missouri Legislature. We are asking the Board of Healing Arts to meet with the Board of Nursing to remove this rule permanently. The Board of Healing Arts (BoHA) is meeting this Friday, January 14th at 8AM to discuss APRNs and mileage.
We are asking for your help. We need collaborating physicians to reach out to the BoHA. NOT APRNs. Please each out to your collaborators and ask them to request this change.
A template email is as follows:
Dear Members of the Board of Healing Arts,
As a physician in the state of Missouri, I urge your action to address a current rule that is jointly promulgated with the Board of Healing Arts and the Board of Nursing. The current Rule is under 20 CSR 2200-4.200(2)2 relating to Geographic Areas, states: “the collaborating physician and collaborating APRN shall practice within seventy-five (75) miles by road of one another”.
This particular rule was waived under Governor Parson’s emergency orders, which expired Friday, December 31, 2021. We respectfully request your action to remove the 75-mile restriction and allow the geographic parameter to be established within the collaborative practice arrangement between the collaborating physician and the collaborating APRN.
Missouri is the only state in the nation with a geographic restriction that prohibits patient care for health care providers, especially in the rural areas of our state.
You can email all of the BoHA members here: healingarts@pr.mo.gov
